Greg Myerson - World Record Holder

SATURDAY ONLY ~ 1 PM

 Fishing is hunting…

Greg Myerson, who caught the pending world record striped bass, an 81.88-pound female, on August 4, 2011, has been hunting fish and game for more than three decades.

He is an accomplished hunter, an archer, as well as a fisherman, as comfortable with a fly rod hunting cut-throat trout in New Mexico’s San Juan River as he is fishing with eels on the reefs off the Connecticut shore.  He is also an avid and competitive skeet shooter.
Greg began trapping raccoons and muskrats when he was twelve to earn the money to buy his first boat, a 17-foot wooden Brockway skiff.   As a boy, he used the boat to run a drag net in Long Island Sound to catch shiners he sold to pay for gas, and he was the top student in the state in a contest to identify trees in the wild.  He was a nationally-acclaimed defensive end at Lyman Hall High school, receiving scholarships to Clemson and University of Tennessee.  Instead, he chose to attend the University of Rhode Island (where he was a starting linebacker) because he wanted to fish.  He is both the 2010 and 2011 Angler of the Year (On The Water magazine competition) with his average catch in both years above 60 pounds.  In total, Greg loves the outdoors, more comfortable in boots than loafers.
His fishing philosophy can be summed up:  Fishing is Hunting.   A passionate outdoorsman, he holds nothing back, sharing advice, guidance and even hot spots to those seeking to improve their skills.   He has invented unique lures and gear that he uses himself and will eventually market once his patents are approved.

This high definition video presentation is filled with exciting action sequences and breathtakingly beautiful images of striped bass, fluke, tautog, false albacore and black sea bass. Living on the fringe of the Catskills has allowed me to meet, become good friends with, and learn firsthand from many of the legendary tyers of the area, including Art Flick, Harry and Elsie Darbee, The Dette's, Lee Wulff, and many others.   Since then I've been involved with Trout Unlimited, The Federation of Fly Fishers, United Fly Tyers, The Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum, and several Fly Fishing Shows.   I've tied flies commercially for years,  finally moving toward more custom tying and teaching.   Teaching both fly tying and fly fishing has become an important part of my off stream fishing life, having  been an instructor with the Wulff Fly Fishing School for the last 30 years.

An early interest in the making of bamboo fly rods allowed me the privilege of contributing the technical drawings for "A Master' Guide To Building A Bamboo Fly Rod", by Everett Garrison with Hoagy B. Carmichael. The Minonipi Wulff is a favorite fly designed for the big brook trout in Labrador.  It was written up in an article entitled "The Wonderful Wulffs", by Dick Talleur in Fly Tyer magazine, the winter 1988 issue.

The hit TV show, Forever Wild Outdoors Adrenaline Adventures, has appeared nationally the past two years on the Sportsman Channel. In 2016, Forever Wild Outdoors will be airing their New York based TV show on the Pursuit Channel. Forever Wild Outdoors has "broken the mold" from other outdoor television. Their mantra... "It's not the size of the trophy... it's the size of the experience" has resonated throughout the U.S. and Canada ! Sharing the outdoors and creating memories is what Forever Wild Outdoors is all about, whether it's first-time hunters, kids, women, or just your best hunting buddy ! Co-hosts, Steve Schicker and Gerry Rightmyer share their passion through the video lens. Creating memories and adventures in the Northeast and other far-reaching destinations, Forever Wild Outdoors provides an entertaining and informative look at the great outdoors... Hunting at it's finest ! As Steve and Gerry always say... "Let's keep our hunting heritage safe, ethical, and Forever Wild!"

Steve Schicker-Producer, Host. Steve was born in upstate New York where he learned from his father that it’s not the size of the trophy; it’s the size of the experience that counts. At seventeen,

Steve enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and still continued to hunt every chance he could. In 1996, Steve was in a car accident with two compression fractures in his spine, resulting in a lot of free time.

Since he could not hunt, he turned to his first love… art, and so started Forever Wild Outdoors. Steve sold his art at various festivals where he met a hunter safety instructor. The instructor convinced Steve to become an instructor himself, which allowed him to pay it forward, teaching others what was taught to him by his father. He attended Finger Lakes Community College to study Wildlife Biology. It was during this time Steve began his journey into competition turkey calling. Traveling the east coast to parts of the Midwest and entering as many competitions as he could, and competing in many of the major competitions, he eventually became a five-time New York State Turkey Calling Champion. Now in the outdoor industry, Steve worked for various game call companies in sales and marketing and design, until eventually he began his own call company. Producing video to support the sale of his calls, Steve soon found a passion for telling the hunting tale through a camera lens.
