Greg Myerson - sponsored by Eastern Boats

Saturday 12 Noon & Sunday 11 AM

 Fishing is hunting…

Greg Myerson, who caught the pending world record striped bass, an 81.88-pound female, on August 4, 2011, has been hunting fish and game for more than three decades.

He is an accomplished hunter, an archer, as well as a fisherman, as comfortable with a fly rod hunting cut-throat trout in New Mexico’s San Juan River as he is fishing with eels on the reefs off the Connecticut shore.  He is also an avid and competitive skeet shooter.

Greg began trapping raccoons and muskrats when he was twelve to earn the money to buy his first boat, a 17-foot wooden Brockway skiff.   As a boy, he used the boat to run a drag net in Long Island Sound to catch shiners he sold to pay for gas, and he was the top student in the state in a contest to identify trees in the wild.
He was a nationally-acclaimed defensive end at Lyman Hall High school, receiving scholarships to Clemson and University of Tennessee.  Instead, he chose to attend the University of Rhode Island (where he was a starting linebacker) because he wanted to fish.  He is both the 2010 and 2011 Angler of the Year (On The Water magazine competition) with his average catch in both years above 60 pounds.  In total, Greg loves the outdoors, more comfortable in boots than loafers.
His fishing philosophy can be summed up:  Fishing is Hunting.   A passionate outdoorsman, he holds nothing back, sharing advice, guidance and even hot spots to those seeking to improve their skills.   He has invented unique lures and gear that he uses himself and will eventually market once his patents are approved.
